Bucket Explorer Version 2010.06 comes with some more enhancements. Here are some of the new features and improvements which will make the Amazon S3 experience much better for all its users. Click here to
this new version of Bucket Explorer.
Import Export Web Service:
Bucket Explorer also supports a new feature namely Import Export as web service. Bucket Explorer now provides a list of import export jobs. It also has a feature to save "SIGNATURE" file, showing status of particular Job, Print Packing Slip and shows address where Packing needs to be shipped. Bucket Explorer supports to create, update, cancel and list the jobs. Bucket Explorer also supports optional fields used for import export service. Bucket Explorer has a feature to add User Define Key-Value (In case some new field is supported by Import Export Web Service).
This new service enables faster and easier management of data transfers and migrations. According to Amazon, AWS Import/Export is cost effective and ideal for large data sets.
Reduced Redundancy Storage (RRS):
Bucket Explorer supports RRS for objects that exist in Amazon S3. You can update storage type by "Upload as Reduced Redundancy Storage", "Update Metadata", "Bucket Default", "Property" and "Bulk Update Metadata" options. RRS objects can also be identified by its brown color in version listing.
What is RRS:
This new storage option enables customers to reduce their costs by storing non-critical, reproducible data at lower levels of redundancy than the standard storage of Amazon S3. It provides a cost-effective solution for distributing or sharing content that is durably stored elsewhere, or for storing thumbnails, or other processed data that can be easily reproduced.
Amazon CloudFront Streaming Distribution (Public/Private):
Amazon CloudFront is a web service for content delivery. It makes it easier to distribute content to end users quickly, with low latency and high data transfer speed.
Now Bucket Explorer enhanced this feature by providing streaming distribution as a new distribution type.
Streaming Distribution Logging:
Bucket Explorer also supports CloudFront logging for Streaming (public/private) Distribution. This is the process in which the operations that are being performed on distributed content will be logged by Amazon, and logs are saved in the distributed bucket where you have set logging. It supports listing both type of distribution in "List Distribution" panel with mark for streaming distribution as "STREAMING".
Amazon CloudFront Distribution with HTTPS:
Bucket Explorer also provides a new feature to create distribution (public/private) with Https support which delivers the content over an HTTPS connection.
Create Bucket for two new locations:
Bucket Explorer also supports creating bucket for two new locationswhich are
US-West (North California)
. Bucket Explorer supports all features on these two new locations same with the old two locations like US and Europe.
Amazon S3 Versioning option:
Bucket Explorer allows its users to use Amazon S3 versioning feature. When we upload or delete existing objects on S3 Bucket, the object will be overwritten or deleted. When objects are overwritten or deleted, their older versions are stored in S3 if versioning is enabled on that Bucket. You can list all the overwritten and deleted versions in the bucket.
You can enable versioning on a bucket by using Advance → Versioning → Set option at bucket toolbar of Bucket Explorer. It will show you two options (1. Versioning, 2. MFA Delete). You can choose which option you want to set on your bucket.
You can use Versioning for retention and archiving of data. Amazon S3 stores every version of your archived data with Versioning. There is no limit to the number of versions that you can store in Amazon S3. There is no limit for how long you can store these versions.
By enabling Versioning on Amazon S3 Bucket using Bucket Explorer, you can:
List all versions of objects in a bucket.
See all versions of a particular object (file and folder object).
Set ACL on all version objects.
Remove versioning to stop archiving of versions of your data.
See all deleted data objects of your bucket.
Copy & restore version object.
Generate public URL as well as signed URL for version objects.
Perform delete/update ACL/download for multiple version objects.
Click on "Switch to object list" option to list objects of selected bucket.
: Bucket Explorer can not perform restore, copy, download, or ACL-update operation on selected object if the object is marked as delete, which is just a placeholder for a deleted object.
Bucket Explorer has MFA Delete feature that provides additional security from preventing malicious access (unauthorized deletion of an S3object) on objects. You have an option to set/remove MFA Delete option with versioning.
Drag and Drop
Bucket Explorer allows you to use Drag and Drop to upload, download and copy S3 objects that makes your work fast and easy. You can pick your native file(s) then start dragging those file(s) and drop onto the object table of Bucket Explorer. The dropped file will be uploaded to Amazon S3 in your selected bucket. You can also upload file(s) from local file explorer situated on the left side of Bucket Explorer main window, by simply start dragging selected file(s) and dropping to object table. You can download in similar way. If you have two instances of Bucket Explorer opened, then you can copy your S3 objects by dragging the selected S3 objects from source (object table of one instance) and dropping onto the destination (object table of another instance).
Bucket policies give customers the ability to create conditional rules for managing access to their buckets and objects. With the existing Amazon S3 ACLs, you can only grant access to another account or to specific groups of Amazon S3. But with bucket policies, you can author policies which either grant or deny access to any number of accounts and across a range or set of keys. It can restrict access based on AWS account as well as request-based attributes. It can also define security rules that apply to objects within a bucket.
Notifications for RRS object loss:
Bucket Explorer supports Amazon S3 Notification feature which enables a user to configure S3 bucket to send a notification through SNS when an RRS object in that bucket is lost. Notifications are enabled on bucket. Bucket Explorer also provides an easy interface to create, subscribe, publish and view all notification topics.
Default Root Object for Amazon CloudFront:
Bucket Explorer supports a feature to assign a default object while creating or updating a distribution. A default object is a file that CloudFront returns in response, when a user makes a requests to your distribution without having a specific object (file) name in the URL.
Bucket Explorer supports Amazon CloudFront Invalidation feature which allows a user to remove content from the caches of all edge locations prior to the expiration date set on content. Bucket Explorer provides an easy interface to create and view all CloudFront Invalidations for the CloudFront Distribution.
Distribution for Custom Origin:
Bucket Explorer supports creating Amazon CloudFront Distribution for Non Amazon S3 Origin. You can customize the origin information to associate with the distribution. So you can create distribution for S3 Origin as well as CustomOrigin (Non Amazon S3 Origin).
