Classification or Types of Amazon S3 Buckets

Amazon S3 Buckets are classified in five types namely: Buckets, Shared Buckets, Distributed Buckets, Logged Buckets, and Logged Distribution Bucket

Buckets

These are the simple buckets created by you and used only by you. These are the buckets that can be accessed and manipulated by you ( owner ) only. And these buckets are listed with simple folder icon as seen on Windows operating system.

Shared Buckets

Buckets owned by you – You created and owned these buckets and you also want others to see them. Your can define the privileges that your guests can have over these buckets. These buckets are displayed with a different icon.

Buckets owned by others – Based on the title, these buckets are owned by someone else and you are only permitted to view/manipulate them. Same with Buckets owned by you, permissions you have are the concern of their respective owner(s).

Distributed Buckets

These are the simple buckets that you create where Amazon CloudFront distribution is created. A different icon is displayed for these buckets.

Logged Buckets

These are the simple buckets that you create where Amazon logs will be delivered for all S3 operations performed on these Buckets.

A pencil icon is also shown for logging bucket in bucket listing in separate right side column.

Logged Distribution Buckets

These are the simple buckets created by you where CloudFront logs will be delivered for all CloudFront Distribution operations performed on the Distribution.
