How to compare Amazon S3 Bucket with another?

This feature of Bucket Explorer comparer facilitates you to compare two Amazon S3 buckets as well as files using compare contents (in the case of Bucket and Folder selection) and compare files options. It also allows you to copy and move content between same s buckets as well as different account’s buckets

There are two ways of performing comparison –

  1. Compare with Name and size - This option is used for getting fast comparison result. It shows the result of comparison on the basis of file size.
  2. Compare with Name and Hash - This option is used for getting comparison result on the basis of file contents (Hash Value).
How to use Quick Comparer?

Two types of comparison are possible –

  1. Comparison between bucket-bucket and between folder-bucket.
  2. Comparison between files/folders of buckets.

How to open Comparer Window From Main Panel-

  1. Go to Tools menu, select Advanced then choose Comparer option.
  2. From bucket tool bar choose Comparer button.
  3. At object tool bar choose Comparer .
1. Comparison between bucket-bucket and between folder-bucket-

Note: You may compare different buckets of same account as well as different buckets of different accounts.

  1. Select any option from above choices.
  2. It will open a Comparer panel.
  3. Select your S3 account from both combo boxes at the top of Left Panel (Left Source) and Right Panel (Right Source) .
  4. It will display listing of buckets on both sides.
  5. Select comparison type as “Compare with Name and Size” Or “Compare with Name and Hash” .
  6. Now select a bucket/folder from source side, do right click and select Compare Left Side .
  7. Now select a bucket/folder from Right side, do right click and click on Compare to bucket/folder-name .
  8. It will open Comparer Content Result window and will show the results of comparisons.

 

2. Comparison between files/folders of buckets -

Note - You may compare different Files/Folders within same account as well as in different accounts.

1. Now select a folder from source side, do right click and select Compare Left Side .
2. Now select a folder from Right side, do right click and click on Compare to folder-name .

It displays result of comparison on same panel with equal (=) or with not equal sign (=/=) at the middle of window

  1. Open comparer from above choices to open it.
  2. It will open a Comparer panel.
  3. Select your S3 accounts from both combo boxes at the top of Left Panel (Left Source) and Right Panel (Right Source).
  4. It will display listing of buckets on both sides.
  5. Select the option “Compare with Name and Size” Or “Compare with Name and Hash” .
  6. Now open the buckets on both sides for file(s) / folder(s) listing.
  7. There are three ways to perform comparison –
      a) Use right click option on selected folder.
      b) Select folders from both sides and click on Compare Contents button.
      c) Select files from both sides and click on Compare Files button.

Note -

  1. For file comparison, the results will be shown directly on comparer panel.
  2. For bucket/folders comparison, Comparer Content Result window will be opened and will display results.

Function available on Comparer window- Here several buttons present on the toolbar at the top of comparer window as-

Comparision Type –  
  1. Compare Name with size – It is one of two types of comparison explained at the beginning of document for comparision with Name & Size.
  2. Compare Name with hash - It is one of two types of comparison explained at the beginning of document for comparision with Name & Hash.
  3. Compare contents- It is used for comparing contents of a Folder/Buckets.
  4. Compare file name- It is used for comparing selected Files.
Common Buttons- –  
  1. Refresh- Refresh the listing.
  2. Select All - Selects all the listing.
  3. Show All- It shows All files on both side.
  4. Show common data (=) - Shows all files that exists on both side (having same file name)
  5. Show Uncommon data (=/=) - Shows all files that are missing at one side and exist on another side.
  6. Left side only ( :: ::)- Shows all files that exist only on Left Side (means that are missing on right side)
  7. Right side only (:: :: ) – Shows all files that exist only on Right Side (means that are missing on left side)
  8. Stop Comparison - Stops running comparison process (using compare contents option)
  9. Copy - Copies selected file(s)/ folder(s) to bucket of same account or different account.
  10. Move - Moves selected file(s)/folder(s) to bucket of same account or different account.
  11. Up - Up the listing one step above at a time. (listing of one level up)
Button available on Compare Content Result window-  
  1. Common (=) : Shows All files that exists on both side and are equal.
  2. Uncommon (=/=) : Shows All files that exists on both side and are not equal.
  3. Left Side Only ( :: ::): Shows all files that exist only on Left Side (means that are missing on right side)
  4. Right Side Only (:: :: ): Shows all files that exist only on Right Side (means that are missing on left side)
  5. Count - Shows the summary of comparison as-

    a. Matched Files (total file count of Common Files)
    b. UnMatched Files (total file count of Uncommon Files)
    c. Only on left side (total file count of Left Side Only Files)
    d. Only on right side (total count of Right Side Only Files)

  6. Note : To get the required list of resultant files, double click on one of the options
  7. Buttons that perform same functionality as they perform at Comparer window are-
    a. Copy
    b. Move
