File & Folder management

We often confront with problems of having more data than space at our disposal. So we traverse through entire file system to find out which of the files can be deleted to make room for new additions. There can be several instances where we find data being replicated, so we quickly delete one occurrence of data and find space. But this is not a permanent solution and some time or other we will have to get extra space to keep on adding.

This and other storage related problems have been intelligently managed by Bucket Explorer, where you are never short of space, no matter how much data you have. Bucket explorer provides you as many as 100 buckets. Hearing this you must be wondering, how 100 buckets can have unlimited amount of data? Do read on to find how this magic takes place!

The amount of over all data storage is unlimited and size of individual object or file can be 5 GB at max, and we believe no individual file is practical life can exceed this limit. Now comes point worth noticing, how to manage this data to be manageable and easy to retrieve?

Here are few suggestions for you.

  • Classify your data on your local file system, before you upload it.
  • The classification folders should be entitled as to reflect the contents contained in.
  • Decide urgency level so that frequently used data can be found with less scrolling and least used data is stored on other side.
  • Entitle one bucket as miscellaneous to store data that doesn't fall in any specific category.
  • You can store multiple folders in a bucket, so you can further categorize your data, if you are storing music in a bucket, then create subfolders like blue, romance, dance, remix, serene, favorite etc.
  • Use Hide/Unhide bucket option to prevent accidental operations. This option also improves visibility as you can unhide buckets you wish to stay out of your present work.
  • Buckets can be thought of as entire drive segment on your machine. So careful creation and economical use is recommended. This is like we have few drives on our machine and we must manage entire data on those available drives only, so here too we have 100 such drives(buckets), so we have ample space, just wise management is needed.
  • If managed in a proper way, you will need fewer buckets to arrange your mountain of data.
  • You can also store your data in a compressed form to save data on Amazon S3. So a file for example having 3mb in size can be stored as zipped to save 2MB of space and only 1 mb is needed.
  • Compression also has an added advantage to offer as the size of file reduces the less transfer will be required, so besides having well managed data, you can also save money. Profit followed by profit!

AS the space for you is only limited by your imagination, you will never run short of it. The correct management not only improves efficiency but also saves money for you. As you pay only for what you use, redundancy can be proved costly. So keep deleting files which are stored at multiple locations. Deletion on buckets directly is also an option but you should be very sure before you remove some thing permanently. So better make all deletions and modification at file system level. Then upload or re uploads folders.

Hope fully, issue raised by our vigilant user gets resolved with this article.
