How to delete Amazon S3 files and bucket?

Bucket Explorer provides delete option for Buckets and objects. If Amazon S3 versioning is enabled on your Bucket then Amazon S3 keep versions of your deleted object(s) , but if its not enabled then Bucket Explorer keep versions of deleted object(s) in trash if you choose Move to Trash option while deleting s3 objects .

If you want to delete file(s) from Bucket, follow the steps below:

  1. Select Bucket from which you want to delete file(s) and folder(s).
  2. Select the file(s) and folder(s) that you want to delete.
  3. There are two options available to delete file(s) and folder(s).
    1. Right click on object listing table and Choose " Delete" -> "Delete File(s) " option.
    2. Click File -> Delete icon from the shortcut menu located at object tool bar.
  4. After clicking on any of the above two options, it will prompt a message "Are you sure to delete 2 item(s)" (If user selects 2 items) with two options
    1. Move to Trash
    2. Don't Delete.
  5. In case of Amazon S3 versioning set on the Bucket whose objects you are deleting, the option "Move to Trash" option will be changed in "Delete Permanently".
  6. If you click "Move to trash" or "Delete Permanently" , deletion process will be started in queue.
  7. After completion you will see result on statistics panel.

 

If you want to delete existing Bucket, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the bucket you wish to delete.
  2. There are two options available for the deletion of Bucket.
    • Right click on bucket listing table and choose " Delete Bucket --> Bucket Delete " option.
    • Click on " Bucket " button and select " Delete " icon, located at Bucket tool bar.
  3. Clicking on any of the above two options prompts you for the confirmation as "Are you sure you want to delete Bucket: #Bucket name# " with two buttons for Delete and Don’t Delete .
  4. Click on Delete .
  5. If bucket which you are deleting is distributed Bucket then it will ask “You have created a distribution on this bucket, are you sure you want to delete the bucket #BucketName#”.
  6. Click on Delete or Don’t Delete button as per your choice.
  7. If any log delivery has been set to any Bucket then it will ask
    " #BucketName# may be used by Amazon for log delivery. Are you sure you want to delete it?",
    Click on Yes or No as per your choice.
  8. If bucket is empty then it will be deleted.
  9. If the specified Bucket contains versions then a message will be appeared as "You are trying to delete a bucket which contains versions. You must delete all versions in the Bucket before deleting the bucket."
  10. So you have to delete all the versions from the specified Bucket which you are trying to delete.
  11. If Bucket contain only s3 object(s) not versions then  it will warn as "Do you want to delete all files in bucket #BucketName# " with two options
    1. Move to trash
    2. Don't delete.
  12. In case of versioning set on the bucket , the option "Move to trash" option will be changed to "Delete Permanently".
  13. If you click "Move to trash" or "Delete Permanently", deletion process will be started in queue .
  14. After completion you will see a result on statistics panel.

NOTE: If you have selected single file to delete then the deletion process will be seen in a progress bar instead of Queue Panel.
