How to share a file with someone using Amazon S3

Want to share a file with colleagues, friends or family?

Most people, like you, most often have to share your files, photos, creations, artwork, music, presentations, and almost anything a creative mind can think of. You may be managing organizations where sharing of files is a daily routine, or you do it to socialize or just for fun.

Some Amazon s3 tools are commonly used for such purposes. But, Bucket Explorer cuts an edge over the others as it has additional feature that not only enables you to let your family, friends, professional clients or customers share the files, for the time specified by you, but also enables them to host their files as web content.

You can upload a big file on Amazon which needs frequent changes and share its url with all others. Make the changes in the files as many times as needed. You won’t need to resend the updated file again to all the people. Just send the URL for the file uploaded and ask them to use it every time you make the changes in it.
In this way you can avoid sending big attachments again and again.

At Bucket Explorer the option which you get for sharing the file/object is 'Generate Web URL'.

Get Public URL menu

By choosing the 'Generate Web URL' option, you get an accessible http or https url(s) for the object(s) which you want to share .Copy the url(s) and email it to those you want to share the files with.

And, the second option that can help you share files for some well specified period of time is generate 'Signed URL'

Get Public Signed URL menu

With 'Signed URL' option, specify the date and time for which you want to share a file with others

Get Public Signed URL time

On specifying the time limit you will get the url which you can mail to others to share files for specific date and time.

Please note that Amazon's pricing is truly "on demand". So you will pay for every GET request and the bandwidth. If you don't want to pay for the bandwidth consumed by the spiders, the option of ‘Generate Web URL' is helpful for you.
