List Amazon S3 Buckets in your S3 account by sending Http GET Service Request to Amazon S3 Server

To list all Buckets created under your S3 account, you will need to send Http GET Service Request to Amazon S3 Server. You can do that in one of the two ways explained below:
  1. List Buckets using Amazon S3 REST API (GET Service) - If you are a programmer and want to write your own software program, you can list Buckets in your Amazon S3 account by using REST or SOAP API supported by Amazon S3. In this documentation, we will only explain REST API (GET Service), you can refer to AWS documentation for SOAP API to list Buckets.
  2. List Buckets using Bucket Explorer - If you do not want to write software code to send GET request to Amazon S3 server for listing Buckets, you can use Bucket Explorer to list Buckets with mouse clicks.
You must be a valid registered AWS Account holder to authenticate the request. Once you get list of all buckets, you can do further operation on the Buckets as well as well as its containing S3 Objects .

A. List Buckets using Amazon S3 REST API (GET Service)

To List all buckets that exist in the AWS Account from your software program, you will need to request GET on the Service endpoint (s3.amazonaws.com). For that you do not need to provide any parameter in the body of your request, however, you must include common Request headers.

Syntax:

GET / HTTP/1.1
Host: s3.amazonaws.com
Date: date
Authorization: signatureValue

B. List Buckets using Bucket Explorer

While the "GET Service" API of AWS allows you to get all existing buckets from your software program, Bucket Explorer with REST API lets you do that with mouse clicks on a friendly user interface.

As soon as you connect to Amazon S3 using Bucket Explorer, it lists all the existing buckets within the S3 Account in the Bucket Table displayed on the screen.

You can refresh the Bucket List in Bucket Explorer using the Refresh tool button option. Refresh bucket option reloads the bucket list on the screen.
