Amazon S3 - Metadata http header - Mime Type

Bucket Explorer allows you to update the MIME Type (Content Type) of the files at the time of uploading .
“MIME types” are used to identify the type of information that a file contains. It is similar to file extensions but universally more accepted.

Steps for editing MIME Type:

  1. Run Bucket Explorer.
  2. Go to Tools -> Advanced -> Edit MIME Types.
  3. It will show you a list of MIME types on which you can perform ADD, EDIT, and REMOVE operations.
  4. ADD
    1. Click on Add button. It will ask for Extension and MIME Type.
    2. Provide Extension and MIME type and click on “OK”.
    3. It will show you new Extension with MIME type in the list.
    4. Save it by clicking on “Save” button on MIME Type window.
  1. EDIT
    1. Select the row of MIME type which you want to edit and click on “Edit” button.
    2. It will show you Edit MIME type window with existing Extension and MIME type.
    3. Edit the MIME type by entering new MIME type.
    4. Extension is not editable.
    5. Save it by clicking on “Save” button on Edit MIME type window.
  2. REMOVE
    1. Select the row of MIME type which you want to remove and click on “Remove” button.
    2. It will simply remove the selected MIME type from the list.
    3. By clicking on “Save” button on Edit MIME type window, it will also remove the specified MIME type from the configuration xml.
  3. Now upload a file with the specific extension which you have provided. See the properties of the file and you will find the specified extension (as Content Type) in the list.

Updating or Editing MIME Type in Bucket Explorer config does not need API request. MIME Type list is updated at local but when it is used with upload operation for Content-Type metadata, we will then fetch this value and set to being an uploaded object.
