How to compare Google Storage files with local files and folders?

Bucket Explorer for Google Storage have one important feature of comparing contents stored at Google Storage with your local contents, compare contents, files and folders with the contents resided in another Google Storage bucket, and also you can use this comparer to compare local to local contents, file, folders. You can compare all types of files including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, RTF, Text, HTML, XML, and more.
Bucket Explorer have two options for comparing local file with Google Storage file that are : Bucket Explorer Comparer and right click menu option Compare To .

Set, edit or remove Defaults from Google Storage bucket Use Comparer User Interface for :

    A) Selecting Source: You can desired select source from combo box listed both side. User can get the contents of selected source like local listing or Google Storage listing for saved Google Storage credentials.
   B) Path: Path shows selected bucket name with remote path for Google Storage listing and local path for local selection.
   C) Common Tool Bar : This tool bar has collection of command like refresh, show all, common, left side only, right side only.

Two ways of performing comparison :
  1. Compare with Name and Size :
  2. Shows the result of comparison on the basis of object size. It results fast in comparison to Name and Hash.
  3. Compare with Name and Hash :
  4. This option compares ETAG Value of object with MD5 hash value of selected left side files.

Options to go to comparer :
  1. Go to Tools menu, select Advanced then choose Comparer option.
  2. From bucket tool bar choose Comparer button.
  3. At object tool bar choose Comparer
Possible four combinations of comparison in Bucket Explorer:
  1. Comparison between folders (Local) and folder (Google Storage) – having same name.
  2. Comparison between folders (Local) and folder (Google Storage) – having different name.
  3. Comparison between file (Local) and object (Google Storage)- having same name.
  4. Comparison from main UI between file/folder (Local) and file/folder/bucket (Google Storage)
    1. Comparison between folders (Local) and folder (Google Storage) - having same name
      1. Open Comparer from any desired option.
      2. Select your Local file system from one side and Google Storage account from another side from Left Source and Right Source combo box.
      3. It will display listing of drive as well as buckets on the basis of selected source type. You can explore the bucket/drive/folder by double clicking on the listed row item or you can write correct path to explore the desired folder.
      4. Select comparison type as “Compare with Name and Size” Or “Compare with Name and Hash”.
      5. Select the folder(s) which are exist at local as well as at Google Storage account.
      6. Click on Compare Contents button exist on common tool bar.
      7. It will open Comparer Content Result window and will show the result of comparisons.
    2. Comparison between folders (Local) and folder (Google Storage) – having different name
      1. Open Comparer panel.
      2. Select your Local file system from one side and Google Storage account from another side in combo box options at the top of Left Panel (Left Source) and Right Panel (Right Source).
      3. It will display listing of drive as well as buckets on the basis of selected source type. You can explore the bucket/drive/folder by double clicking on the listed row item or you can write correct path to explore the desired folder.
      4. Select comparison type as “Compare with Name and Size” Or “Compare with Name and Hash”.
      5. Select a folder from source side, do right click and select Compare Left Side .
      6. Now select a folder from Right side, do right click and click on Compare to folder-name .
      7. It will open Comparer Content Result window and will show the result of comparisons. (on right click it will apply comparison with compare contents and comparison parameter as per selection).
    3. Comparison between file (Local) and object (Google Storage)- having same name
      1. Open a Comparer panel.
      2. Select your Local file system and Google Storage account another side.
      3. Select comparison type as “Compare with Name and Size” Or “Compare with Name and Hash”.
      4. Select the file(s) which are exist at local as well as at Google Storage account.
      5. Click on Compare Files button exist on common tool bar.
      6. It will display the result of comparison on same comparer window. It will give very quick response of comparison even it is of name with hash or name with size comparison.
    4. Comparison from main panel between file/folder (Local) and object/folder/bucket (Google Storage)
      1. Listing the bucket by login for any Google Storage account.
      2. Explore bucket and local file system.
      3. Right Click on local file/folder (left side) and click on “Select Left Side to Compare” menu option.
      4. Right Click on Google Storage Bucket/Folder/File (right side) and click on “Compare To” menu option. Note : Comparison will be possible between file-file, folder-folder, folder-bucket and vice-versa.
      5. It will open Comparer window and by default it will give result of Compare Files Option, mean result will be shown on same window.
      6. You can also compare listed folder by selecting all and clicking on compare content button exist on common tool bar.
Function available on Comparer window-

Comparison Parameter Type- :

  1. Compare Contents- It is used for comparing contents of selected Folder/Bucket.
  2. Compare Files- It is used for comparing selected files.

Common Buttons- :

  1. Here several buttons present on the toolbar at the top of comparer window as -
    1. Refresh : Refresh the listing.
    2. Select All : Selects all the listing.
    3. Show All : Shows All files in both side.
    4. Show common data (=) : Shows all files that are exist in both side (having same file name)
    5. Show Uncommon data (=/=) : Shows all files that are missing at one side and exist in another side
    6. Left side only (::::) : Shows all files that exist only on Left Side (means that are missing in right side)
    7. Right side only (::::) : Shows all files that exist only on Right Side (means that are missing in left side)
    8. Stop Comparison : Stops running comparison process (while using compare contents option).
    9. Upload : Uploads selected file(s)/ folder(s) to bucket of selected Google Storage account.
    10. Download : Downloads selected file(s)/folder(s) from bucket of selected Google Storage account.
    11. Up : Up the listing one step above at a time. (listing of one level up)
    12. Copy : Copies selected files to another Google Storage account.
    13. Move : Moves selected files to another Google Storage account.
  2. Buttons available on Compare Content Result window-
    1. Common (=) : Shows All files that are exist in both side and Equal.
    2. Uncommon (=/=) : Shows All files that are exist in both side and Not Equal.
    3. Left Side Only (::::) : Shows all files that exist only on Left Side (means that are missing in right side).
    4. Right Side Only (:::: ) : Shows all files that exist only on Right Side (means that are missing in left side).
    5. Count - Shows the summary of comparison as-
      1. Matched Files (total file count of Common Files).
      2. UnMatched Files (total file count of Uncommon Files).
      3. Only on left side (total file count of Left Side Only Files).
      4. Only on right side (total count of Right Side Only Files)
      5. Note : By double clicking on each category of compare result mentioned above open the list of files as per category selected.
  3. Buttons that perform same functionality as they perform at Comparer window are-
    1. Upload
    2. Download
Note: To get the required list of resultant files, double click on one of the options.
