What is ACL & how to use it?

ACL i.e. Access Control List.
Each Bucket and Object on Amazon S3 has an ACL that defines its Access Control Policy. An ACL is a list of grants. A grant consists of one grantee and one permission. ACL is a mechanism which decides who can access what.

There are five type of grantee that can access Amazon S3 Bucket and Object:
  • Owner
  • User by Email.
  • User by canonical representation.
  • AWS user group.
  • Anonymous Group.
Following are permissions that are supported by Amazon S3 and Bucket Explorer provides facility to update these permissions(ACLs):
  • Read
  • Write
  • Read-ACP
  • Write-ACP
