Beta 2 Feedback

Postby sgmoore2 on Tue Jun 10, 2008 11:05 am

Having been trying out some of the new features.

Firstly the download upload/queue. This works well and is very useful, especially when dealing with hundreds of files.

'Move' works very well, but it did not appear obvious to me how it worked. I did figure it out eventually. I was expecting a dialog box asking where I wanted the items moved to. Also. as the status message said 'Move operation is under process. Please Wait', I thought that the program was about to do something and so I waited. Perhaps this should be changed to say something like 'Move operation is under process. Select paste to complete this process'.

Rename process. The queue works very well when I am renaming a folder which affects all the files inside it. However when I am renaming a lot of individual files it doesn't work so well. Because it takes several seconds to work. I tend to let the rename work on in the background whilst I start renaming the next file. However, since each option brings up a new queue, at the end I have to close loads of these windows. I think I would prefer that just one queue window to be used.

However this is just a minor issue. What does cause more of a problem is the fact that the filenames are not updated until I do a complete refresh. This means that I sometimes lose track of where I am in the process (especially if the phone rings in the middle).

But overall impressions are very good.

Stephen

PS
I don't have a simpleDB account (which I assume it needs), so I can't use the audit option, but was wondering what exactly it does.

Thanks for the feedback Stephen,

1. We have started working on the move issue. We will now prompt the user that they need to click on "paste" in the target folder.

2. We may not be able to use a single queue window, but I will have to check with the team. We may remove the queue completely for a single file delete and single file rename.

3. We added the "refresh" button to avoid relisting all the files in large buckets. Listing all the files again after every operation can be expensive on large buckets (Amazon charges for that). But you are not the first one to ask for auto-refresh. We will try to find a solution which will work for large buckets and smaller ones too.

4. Audit report option just adds a row in SDB for each upload, download & delete operation. This option will be more iimportant for later releases, when we add backup support and support for a team edition.

Again, thanks for the feedback. We do appreciate it.

Understood, I was hoping you would be able to update the on-screen grid after the changes are been done without having to go back to ask Amazon.

Mac Version Bug

Postby webtones on Thu Jun 12, 2008 8:43 am

The mac version has a bug which prevents me from using the software alltogether! When I connect that works but then when I click a bucket to list its contents the whole right side of the software disappears! This also happens in the trial version you have available on your main site.

I've just tried to post a screenshot into this post for you to look at but the forum gave me a spam message about not allowing url links until I made 2 posts.
