Once I upload my videos, how do I get the html code?

Postby Scott Colby on Thu Jun 26, 2008 12:39 am

Hi there,

Once I upload the videos to my bucket, is there any way to get the html code? I want to embed the code into one of my websites so my customers can see the videos (much like You Tube).

Is this possible and if so, how?

Secondary question, I generated a web url for each video I uploaded but when I copied and pasted the link in my browser window, it didn't work.

I'm having a hard time with this (using Bucket Explorer for the first time today) and have uploaded 21 videos but can't see/watch any of them.

Please help. I would be appreciative of any assistance.

Thanks,
Scott

The html is usually generated by the program which you used to create the video (e.g. camtasia).

Could you post the URL which did not work for you? you may have to break it into pieces and remove ".com" as the forum software does not allow posting the URLs. Some common reasons for it to not work:
1) Did you change the ACL to "read all" on the file? If you did not do that, you will notice a 403 error.
2) By default bucket explorer generates https urls. Some browsers don't like the subdomain style ssl certificate from Amazon. Try removing "S" from https and just use http.

If you post the error and/or URL, I may be able to provide some more information.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply.

The videos are from my Flip Video camera. I edited them using iMovie and saved them as an m4v format. Usually I upload these into YouTube and it gives me the html code. Can you get the html code using Amazon's S3 service?

In regards to the html code, my bucket is called workouts dot bikiniabsmakeover dot com

and yes I did give Read privileges to all users.

I used the bucket name as the virtual host and it came up with this URL...

h-t-t-p://workouts dot bikiniabsmakeover dot com/300 Workout 1.m4v

Thanks for your help.

For the URL, if you chose virtual hosted URL, you also need to add a CNAME record in your DNS server.

for now try
http://workouts.bikiniabsmakeover.com.s ... ut%201.m4v

This URL works. If you do not want to see s3.amazonaws.com in the URL, then add this CNAME entry in DNS:

workouts.bikiniabsmakeover.com workouts.bikiniabsmakeover.com.s3.amazonaws.com

Thank you for the information.

I thought when you clicked on these URLs, you would be taken directly to the video to watch. But it appears you must download the videos to your computer first. Is this correct?

Is there any way to make it so when I click on one of these URLs, I am taken directly to the video to watch without having to download the video to my computer (these files are very big and I don't want to have to download them to watch them).

Thank you.

don't know much about m4p files. When I click on that URL, it opens in browser and plays automatically.
For .flv files, we inlucde a java script based flv player for our demos.

That's weird. I tried in in Firefox, Safari, and IE and both on a Mac and PC and everytime I click on that link it asks me to save the file...it doesn't open up in a new window and begin playing.
