"Not connected to Internet" persistent error

Postby guest on Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:53 am

I'm obviously on the internet as all my other web apps work and I can post here. But suddenly Bucket Explorer last week stopped functioning with this persistent error: "You have not connected to the internet". I'm still working in the same office on the same computer as I always have.

This is a big blow to my business, as I have many new files to upload for clients everyday and it's very difficult to get replies from Saurabh regarding this problem.

My question is why does Bucket Explorer check for connectivity, if it bypasses checking and just send the data to Amazon, it will find that it can connect.

It tries to connect to s3.amazonaws.com and if it cannot connect, it prompts a message "not connected to internet". Are you able to connect to S3 using any other client, e.g. s3fox?

Thanks for your reply. I would like to test with s3fox, but I need to install firefox and that website appears to be down at the moment. I will test this as soon as possible.

If I understand you correctly, there may be a connection problem to my account on Amazon? Has anyone encountered this before and how might this be remedied?
I've returned to Amazon and everything seems normal with my account.

I've tried re-entering my connection passwords into Bucket Explorer and testing again, but after using it for several months I don't understand why I suddenly have this kind of error.

Are you still experiencing this issue? When you had posted the first post, there was an issue reported on S3 forum for Verizon customers:
http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/ ... 3866#93866

This error does not indicate a problem with just your account. It basically means that Bucket Explorer is not able to connect to Amazon S3 from your machine.
1. Did Java Version change on your machine?
2. Are you now behind a proxy server or did you install a new firewall software, which may be blocking executables to access s3.amazonaws.com URL?
3. Did you change ISP, network, router or your DNS server?

Can you try the latest version available on our download page, http://www.bucketexplorer.com/be-download.html . Please make sure to read this post before you upgrade the existing working version:
