Non alpha numeric characters in bucket names

Postby lesposito on Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:18 am

Does S3 allow to keep non alpha numeric characters in bucket names? I used Bucket Explorer to create a bucket with a "?" as the last character of the bucket name. Bucket Exp. created the bucket, kept the name same but striped off the "?" from end. Is it S3 or a bug in Bucket Explorer?

Amazon S3 bucket name

Lesposito,

"?" is not supported in bucket name, because buckets correspond to domain names (globally unique), so it names can only contain alphanumeric characters, period (.), dash (-) and underscore(_).

Bucket name should be 3 to 255 characters long.

Thanks

In October release, this has been fixed. Now if a user tries to add special characters, bucket explorer will remove those before attempting to create a new bucket.
