Scheduled Backups

Do you have plans to add the capability to create backup jobs and schedule them to run in the background?

Thanks for stopping by. Yes we do. We are getting a lot of requests for that via our feedback form. But as I mentioned in another thread, it will be a different product.

I think the "explorer" and "automated backup" are two different products and they should not be merged. If you think it should be added to the current product, please let us know your thoughts and we will consider that for sure.

The debate between those who prefer multi-purpose software vs. those who prefer specialized tools will never be resolved. Here's my thoughts (CAUTION - opinion of ONE):

To me, S3 is just an address on the 'net that stores my backup files in one bucket, and my website files in another bucket. Ideally, one program that uploads/downloads to and from either bucket is all I need, and would be convenient. I don't see the point of using one app. to work with one bucket, and a separate app. for my other bucket.

Add in scheduled background backup, and you have it all in one app.

Ok. I understand your point of a single app and ease of use. We will make it transparent from the user that the background backups are being done by a command line app by adding all the control in the GUI version.

I guess the only feature that we are not ready to commit in near term is running this as a windows service which runs in the background. We can add that after a few months, but the initial version will be a command line utility, with all controls from the Bucket Explorer GUI client and the schedule will be controlled by cron / Task Scheduler.

The command line backup utility has its own benefits and we need that as a stand alone product for sure.
