BE doesn't see folder in a bucket

Postby drc on Sat Feb 09, 2008 10:01 pm

Folder, folder, where's the folder?

I have 6 buckets defined. In one of the buckets are a few files, and a folder. The folder was created with Transmit, which I have been using for S3 access prior to learning about BE.

The folder does not appear in the list of objects when viewed with BE. How come? Is there a secret setting that enables display of folders (and folders within folders)?

Since BE doesn't list the folder, it can't open the folder, display the files that are in it, nor manipulate the ACL for the contained files.

Note that some of my buckets were created by Transmit. BE has no problem viewing/manipulating them. Other buckets were created with BE (and Transmit can see them and upload into them).

Thanks.

If you click on Tools - Create folders for backward compatibility - and then select the Bucket which was created with transmit.. that should create virtual folders and you should be able to see the files previously uploaded in folders by transmit. It will not change anything on existing files and the data uploaded by transmit should not be affected in any way.

Amazon does not have a concept of a folder within a bucket. Each tool creates its "virtual folders" differently.

Spooky - I don't understand these virtual folders, but your prescription worked.

It has the side effect of creating a nameless, empty folder in the second-level folder. Said folder is invisible to Transmit but seems to have no side effects.

Thanks.
