This is one the top 3-4 features that are often requested in S3's support forums. I hope Amazon will implement it soon. In the meantime, if you have to do a lot of renames, this is what we may be able to do:
-> We add a rename button in Bucket Explorer, which will first download the file, then upload with new name and after the new upload is successful, delete the original file.
-> We create a public AMI with Fedora and install bucket explorer on it.
Once this is done, you can rename smaller files from your desktop, and if there are larger files or a lot of files, then you can start the public AMI with your own developer ID and do they renames using EC2? Amazon charges a minimum of 1 hour for an EC2 instance, so you will have to pay 10 cents everytime you boot up that AMI.
