File Explorer

Postby wakewatcher on Wed Sep 19, 2007 6:11 am

You really need to use or mimic the windows file explorer. Its frustrating not to be able to sort the files by type so that you can easily upload just files of a certain type within a folder.

This change has already been done. It will only be a few more days before we release the Sept version.

hmmm. I don't see the capability I need. E.g to be able to sort folders for upload. It just lists them in alpha order. How do I list the folder contents by type or date modified etc?

ok.. I re-read your original post and yes, we are still missing the sorting by size & type from the tree. We will keep this thread open and not mark as "done" yet :).

I thought there was a windows file explorer api so that you could just lift those capabilities from windows itself. And then I've seen other software 'insert' actions into the right mouse click so you could add 'upload file' etc on top of things that MS provides such as rename etc.

We did look at those possibilities when you suggested that last time, but that would have only worked for Windows OS. There are some new options available in Java 6, but we are planning to support Mac and Java 6 is not yet ready for Mac OSX.

Ok. I'm sure you know more about than I do but seems like there should be general capabilities to do that across OSs. I mean Browsers do it all the time. (I assume that file access via browser upload/download works on Macs similar as it does on PCs)

I think finally we do have a file explorer which you wanted.

release -> http://downloads.bucketexplorer.com/win ... 0.27.0.exe

The file explorer view is now the default view. The old tree view can still be found by clicking on a toggle button. So, you can switch between file explorer view & tree view.
